Hopefully, we do a decent job. Most days, anyway. And I definitely wouldn&#8217;t want to do this job without him. He&#8217;s a great father and role model for our kids. I also born into a two parent family. I have a very involved father. Fact: I&#8217;m a lot like my Dad. At 79 years young he rocks at texting and using emojis more than me. And he never shies away from learning new things. I love my Dad to the moon and back.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2836\" src=\"http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_0304-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_0304-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_0304-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_0304-768x768.jpg 768w, http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_0304-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I think, if there&#8217;s one role within families that is changing with the times, it&#8217;s the role of father. But maybe that&#8217;s because I&#8217;m a mother&#8230;and when I think about it our role has changed too. We&#8217;ve come a long way from thinking the 1950&#8217;s ideal family unit is the only option These days fathers can be the stay-at-home parent. He can be gay or straight, have stepchildren, adoptive kids, and he&#8217;s given necessary label of parent rather than babysitter.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to fictional dads, I don&#8217;t not have to put one iota of effort into naming my very favourite father character, which would be Atticus Finch from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapters.indigo.ca\/en-ca\/books\/to-kill-a-mockingbird-the\/9780446310789-item.html?ikwsec=Books&amp;ikwidx=0\">To Kill A Mockingbird<\/a> by Harper Lee. Quiet, polite, and smart. And he loved to read! I have loved him since high school.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cJem, see if you can stand in Bob Ewell\u2019s shoes a minute. I destroyed his last shred of credibility at that trial, if he had any to begin with. The man had to have some kind of comeback, his kind always does. So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that\u2019s something I\u2019ll gladly take. He had to take it out on somebody and I\u2019d rather it be me than that houseful of children out there. You understand?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2838\" src=\"http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3193-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3193-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3193-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3193-768x768.jpg 768w, http:\/\/karyngood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3193-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are three other books I feel have memorable dads or father figures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All The Light We Cannot See by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anthonydoerr.com\/books\/all-the-light-we-cannot-see\/\">Anthony Doerr<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The Kite Runner by <a href=\"http:\/\/khaledhosseini.com\/books\/the-kite-runner\/synopsis\/\">Khaled Hasseini<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.randomhouse.com\/features\/markuszusak\/\">The Book Thief<\/a> by Markus Zusak<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m so thankful for my dad. He taught me about taking risks, encourages me to step outside my comfort zone and he&#8217;s always there for me.
